Does Instagram notify screenshots of posts?

The short answer

No. Instagram never sends a notification when you screenshot a feed post, a profile, a story, or a reel. Screenshotting public content is completely invisible to the account owner. The only place Instagram warns the other person is a disappearing (view-once) photo or video sent in a direct message — screenshot that and the sender sees an alert in the chat.

Feed posts, carousels, reels, profile pictures, and bios can all be screenshotted freely. Instagram treats these as public content and sends no signal to the poster.

The single exception is ephemeral DM media. If someone sends a view-once or disappearing photo/video and you screenshot it, they're told. Regular DM messages and permanent photos are not covered.

More on this

Will someone know if I screenshot their profile picture?

No. Screenshotting a profile, bio, or profile photo sends no notification. It's completely invisible to the account owner.

What about screenshotting a DM conversation?

Ordinary DM text and permanent photos don't notify. Only disappearing (view-once) photos and videos trigger a screenshot alert.
