How to see who unfollowed you, step by step
- 1
Ask Instagram for your followers file
In the Instagram app: profile, ☰, Accounts Center, Your information and permissions, Export your information. Tick only Followers and following, date range All time.
- 2
Download it when Instagram emails you
A followers-only export is usually ready in 5 to 30 minutes. Don't unzip it.
- 3
Pick the file here
You instantly see who doesn't follow you back, your fans and mutuals. Upload again later and you see exactly who unfollowed you since.
Why unfollower apps get your account locked
Most unfollower apps make you log in with your Instagram password. Instagram sees a strange device scraping your followers and flags it, so people get logged out, hit with "suspicious activity" checks, or restricted for days. They also report fake unfollows when a scan gets cut short. Lurk never touches your login. It reads the file Instagram itself gives you, so the list is exact and your account is never at risk.
Know the second someone unfollows you
Skip the exports. Lurk watches your account and pings you with the name, plus who anyone else is following.

How do I see who unfollowed me on Instagram?
Instagram doesn't tell you, but it does let you download your followers list. Export it from Accounts Center (Followers and following, All time), pick the file in the tool above, and do the same again later. Lurk compares the two files and names everyone who unfollowed you in between. Want it automatic? Lurk's unfollow alerts ping you the moment it happens, no files needed.
Is it really free and do I need to log in?
Yes, it's free and you never log in or type your Instagram password into Lurk. You only use Instagram's own export, so there's zero risk of your account getting locked, which is what happens with password-based unfollower apps.
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened and compared right on your phone. Nothing is sent to Lurk or anyone else. You can even turn on airplane mode after the page loads and it still works.
Does it work for private accounts?
Yes. Because the data comes from your own export, it works for private and public accounts of any size, with the exact list, not an estimate.
Why does it say someone unfollowed me when they didn't?
Usually the newer export was made with a shorter date range than All time, so part of the list is missing. Lurk detects this and refuses to name anyone until you re-export with All time. Username changes are also matched up so a rename never shows as an unfollow.
I picked HTML instead of JSON. Do I need to redo it?
No. Lurk reads both formats. JSON adds the date each person followed you, so the lists can be sorted newest first.
What's the difference between 'doesn't follow back' and 'unfollowed'?
'Doesn't follow back' is everyone you follow who doesn't follow you, which one file shows. 'Unfollowed you' is people who followed you and then stopped, which needs two files from different days, or Lurk's automatic alerts.
